Summer in the Park: Warriors Path
Welcome to Warriors’ Path State Park! We hope you will enjoy your visit!
While you are with us, we invite you to take advantage of the rich natural beauty
and wealth of opportunities for enjoyable recreation here at the park.

MONDAY, JUNE 9
6:00 PM VENOMOUS OR NOT – Why do some animals need venom? Are they
safe for us? Come out and learn the facts about some fascinating and
helpful native wildlife. Meet at the Open Air Chapel. In case of rain,
meet at the main bath house.
7:30 PM BIRD CALL BINGO – Which bird song is that? Let’s “listen in” to some
common Tennessee bird calls, then test our knowledge through a classic
game of bingo. You might even get a prize! Meet at the main bathhouse.
TUESDAY, JUNE 10
9:00 AM “ALIENS” AMONG US – Not creatures from Mars, but non-native plants
and animals. Come find out how these “invaders” traveled here, and how
they affect our native species. We’ll have a quick game for the children,
and then an informative slide show. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or
main bath house if it is raining.
10:00 AM NATURE “JEOPARDY” – Let’s try out this natural version of the
famous game show. Test your skills and see how much you REALLY
know about nature. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if
it is raining.
11:00 AM TURKEY TALK – Let’s “talk turkey” about our biggest native game bird.
Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it’s raining.
2:00 PM LEAF ID BOOK – Leaves are shade on a hot summer day. Leaves are
the green carpet of the hills. Leaves are full of amazing stories! Let’s find
out more about the names and stories of our green neighbors. Meet at the
Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.
3:00 PM HABITAT MEANS HOME – Come along as we explore a variety of
wildlife habitats. Join us to see who is “at home” out on the trail. Drive to
the camp store, and we’ll carpool.
5:00 PM THE WARRIORS’ PATH – Why was our park named “Warriors’ Path?”
Take a short hike to find out more. Meet at the main bath house.
7:00 PM MEET THE OWL – Meet one of our “Wildlife Ambassadors” – a REAL
LIVE feathered hunter – and learn his fascinating life story. See
“whooo…” is waiting for you at the Open Air Chapel. If it is raining, meet
at the main bath house.
9:00 PM NIGHT HIKE TO SINKING WATERS – It’s a whole different world out
there at night! Tonight is our chance to discover the peace and the
excitement of a night in the Sinking Waters wetland. Bring a dim
flashlight and drive to the camp store. We’ll carpool out to the park back
country.
NOTE: All activities meet in and near the park’s Main Campground, unless otherwise specified.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 11
9:30 AM WAKE UP WALK – Let’s wake up our senses to morning in the forest. Meet at
the main bath house for a refreshing morning walk.
11:00 AM NATIVE TREES – Let’s get “up close and personal” with our native “woody
neighbors.” Come meet some of our oldest and best natural friends. Meet at the
Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.
2:00 PM ANIMAL TRACK DRAWING – Learn to “track down” local wildlife. Use your
creative skills at the same time! Your unique design is only a “footstep” away.
Meet at the main bath house.
4:00 PM SKULLS – NATURE’S TOOL BOX – Every animal carries along all the tools it
needs for survival! Come investigate some natural “tool boxes,” and find out
more about each animal’s job! Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house
if it is raining.
5:00 PM HIKE BACK IN TIME – Let’s take a walk on some ancient trails, and gain new
insights into those who traveled before us. Meet at the camp store.
6:00 PM BACKPACKING 101- Have you ever wanted to spend more than just a day in
the back country? Here’s your chance to gain advice on how to begin your
overnight expeditions. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is
raining.
8:00 PM CREPUSCULAR STROLL – “Crepuscular” means right around dawn or dusk.
It also means a perfect time to stroll through wildlife country! Meet at the main
bath house for a short discovery walk.
THURSDAY, JUNE 12
9:00 AM DEVIL’S BACKBONE HIKE -Come hike to the high places, and get some new
views of our park land. Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool to the start of
an invigorating hike.
11:00 AM MUD ART – Let’s have a messy, slimy good time! You’ll be amazed at how
creative you can be with nature’s own “fingerpaints”. Meet at the Boundless
Playground entrance to create your own natural masterpiece.
12 NOON NATURE BOOKMARKS – Is there anything more peaceful than nature and a
nice book? Come make a bookmark using the nature around us for you to take
home! Meet at the Open-Air Chapel. In case of rain, meet at the main bath
house.
2:00 PM PACKING FOR THE TRAIL – Not sure what you need for the trail? Come
learn about what you DO and DON’T need to pack for a fun hike. Meet at the
Open Air Chapel (or main bath house if it’s raining).
3:00 PM BAT & MOTH – Use your ears and your “bug hunting” skills! See if you could
survive a night out in the woods and fields — if you were a flying bug! Meet at
the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.
5:00 PM TENNESSEE TRIVIA – Come test out your skills and see how well you
REALLY know our state. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it
is raining.
6:00 PM TREE TOOLS – How big is that tree? How old is it? What wildlife could be
hiding in it? Come see and try out some of the tools that foresters use to study
and protect our native trees. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if
it is raining.
THURSDAY, CONTINUED:
7:30 PM THE LOST TRACK – Our park is tied to history through the rails! Let’s hike
the old railroad grade, and hear the stories of these old railroaders’ lives. Meet
at the Holston Bluffs Trailhead – in the Moody Bluff campground..
9:00 PM FOREST TREES – Take a “hike” from the comfort of your seat. Enjoy a “tour”
of our nearby forest habitats using words and pictures. After the slide show,
we’ll share a demonstration of how to identify our local trees. Meet at the Open
Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.
FRIDAY, JUNE 13
9:00 AM RIDGETOP HIKE – Enjoy some fine high views of the summer forests and
fields under the bright sunny skies. This is a fairly short, but very steep hike. So
wear good hiking footwear, bring some water, and meet at the park’s Mountain
Bike Trail parking lot (at the end of Freeman Road, Blountville TN).
11:30 AM FIELD SWEEP – This green world at our feet is teeming with amazing life.
Help us “sweep up” some field discoveries. Meet at the campfire circle, east end
of the main campground.
1:30 PM NATURE STORY TIME – Meet at the Open Air Chapel, in the shade of the big
Walnut tree, to share a great nature story. Afterwards, we’ll take a very short
walk to find the “star” of our story. In case of rain, meet at the main bath house.
2:00 PM NOSING FOR NATURE WALK – Nature is full of amazing aromas- some
things smell great, and some smell terrible! Let’s use our noses to “sniff out”
some new discoveries. Meet at the camp store and we will walk to the trail
together.
3:00 PM NATURE ART – You’ll be amazed at how creative you can be with nature’s own
“crayons”. Meet at the Open Air Chapel to create your own natural masterpiece.
If it is raining, meet at the main bath house.
4:30 PM HUNDRED-YARD SOLAR SYSTEM – What if our solar system was just 100
yards wide? We’ll find our place in the universe with a bit of imagination! Meet
at the camp store
6:00 PM CORN HUSK DOLLS CIRCLE – Come listen in to a traditional Native
American tale on the origins of the corn husk doll. Then learn how to make one
for yourself! Meet at Open Air Chapel, or at the main bath house if it’s raining.
8:00 PM CHEROKEE GAMES – Let’s play a traditional Cherokee game. See what life
was like for Native American children, before the days of video games! Meet at
the Campfire Circle (east end of main campground), or main bath house if it is
raining.
9:00 PM CHEROKEE ASTRONOMY – The early travelers along the Warriors’ Path
took the time to look up at the night sky, to create stories, and to wonder. Come
share some of the star legends of the many peoples who have called this land
home. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it’s raining.
SATURDAY, JUNE 14

11:00 AM NATURE SCAVENGER HUNT – Do you have a sharp eye for nature?
Discover the natural wonders around us and see if you can find all the items on
the list! Meet at the Open Air Chapel.
2:00 PM NATURE GUESS WHO? – Is it fuzzy? Does it fly? Does this sound like fun?
Come join us for a game of “guess who,” natue style. Meet at the Open Air
Chapel, or the main bath house if it is raining.
5:00 PM CAPTURE THE 3 R’s FLAG – Enjoy a reduce, reuse, and recycle themed game
of capture the flag. Meet at the Open Air Chapel.
6:30 PM MAGNIFYING GLASS STROLL – Use your eyes and some handy little
magnifiers to get a close look at nature’s amazing details. Meet at the main bath
house to begin a short discovery walk.
9:00 PM CAMPFIRE – What a perfect combination: A dark night, a crackling fire, and
some local, traditional ghost tales. Meet at the campfire circle, east end of the
main campground. If it is raining, we’ll have an indoor “campfire” at the main
bath house.
SUNDAY, JUNE 15
9:00 AM WORSHIP SERVICE – Enjoy a peaceful morning worship service at the Open
Air Chapel, or at the pool entrance if it is raining. Sponsored by the Colonial
Heights Baptist Church.
