Warriors Path State Park: Summer in the Park

July 21 - July 27

MONDAY, JULY 21
8:00 PM “INVADERS” AMONG US – Discover more about the dangers of invasive plant
and animal species by playing a nature game about these invaders. Meet at the
Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it’s raining.

9:00 PM STATE SYMBOLS – Enjoy a slide-illustrated talk on our Tennessee State
Symbols, and discover which symbols you can find here at our park! Meet at the
Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.

TUESDAY JULY 22
9:00 AM DEVIL’S BACKBONE HIKE -Come hike to the high places, and get some
new views of our park land. Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool to the
start of an invigorating hike.

11:00 AM SCAVENGER HUNT – You can be a park detective!! Use the clues to find out
more about Warriors’ Path. You might win a prize, and you’ll surely win lots of
exciting discoveries. Meet at the Open Air Chapel to begin the hunt. In case of
rain, meet at the main bath house.

2:00 PM WATERSCOPES – Make your own “window” into the world of water. Bring
along an old milk jug if you have one, and meet at the Open Air Chapel and
we’ll build a little tool to help us see life in the creek. If it’s raining, meet at the
main bath house.

3:00 PM TRACKING BOOK – Come create your own animal track souvenir. Your
track book will be a great way to learn to read the stories in footprints! Meet at
the Open Air Chapel, or the main bath house if it is raining.

4:00 PM LANTERNS OF THE FOREST – With a few simple tools, and a bit of
imagination, we can create our own “lantern show” highlighting the SHAPES
of the woodlands. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it’s
raining.

5:00 PM CORN HUSK DOLLS CIRCLE – Come listen in to a traditional Native
American tale on the origins of the corn husk doll. Then learn how to make one
for yourself! Meet at Open Air Chapel. In case of rain, meet at the main bath
house.

6:00 PM WALKING TREES, FLYING PLANTS – Wind, water, and animals carry
seeds of new trees and plants all across the land. Our “wind” can help too! Meet
at the Open Air Chapel to show off your “hot air” and plant some new life. Meet
at the main bath house if it rains.

7:00 PM EVENING STROLL – Let’s wake up our senses to evening in the forest. Meet

at the main bath house for a short, refreshing hike.

9:00 PM NIGHT HIKE TO SINKING WATERS – It’s a whole different world out there
at night! Tonight is our chance to discover the peace and the excitement of a
night in the Sinking Waters wetland. Bring a dim flashlight and drive to the
camp store. We’ll carpool out to the park back country.

NOTE: All activities meet in and near the park’s Main Campground, unless otherwise specified.

WEDNESDAY JULY 23
8:00 AM BREAKFAST WITH THE BIRDS – Come wake up to our feathered neighbors.
Meet at the main bath house to begin a stroll through bird country! (The first 12
people to come get free doughnut & juice!)

9:30 AM THE WARRIORS’ PATH – Why was our park named “Warriors’ Path?” Take a

short hike to find out more. Meet at the main bath house.

12 NOON PICTURE FRAMES – Come get ready to frame your favorite natural scene!

Meet at the main bath house to make your own picture frame.

4:00 PM “WONDERFUL WACKY WET WEDNESDAY” – Let’s enjoy some kid-friendly
water play and learning activities. You might even get to soak the Park Ranger.
Meet at the Open Air Chapel and be prepared to get VERY WET!

5:00 PM LEAF ID BOOK – Leaves are shade on a hot summer day. Leaves are the green
carpet of the hills. Leaves are full of amazing stories! Let’s find out more about
the names and stories of our green neighbors. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or
main bath house if it is raining.

5:30 PM HABITAT MEANS HOME – Come along as we explore a variety of wildlife
habitats. Join us to see who is “at home” out on the trail. Meet at the camp store.
7:00 PM MEET THE TREES – Take a closer look at our woody friends. Trees have a lot
to teach us about our land and its history. Meet at the Open Air Chapel for this
woody, leafy demonstration. In case of rain, meet at the main bath house.
8:00 PM BIRD CALL BINGO – Which bird song is that? Let’s “listen in” to some
common Tennessee bird calls, then test our knowledge through a classic game of
bingo. You might even get a prize! Meet at the main bathhouse.

THURSDAY JULY 24
9:00 AM FALL CREEK LOOP TRAIL -Let’s hike the park’s most scenic trail! Enjoy
beautiful vistas of the summer fields, as we search for signs of the unique
habitats in the open country. Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool to the
start of a two hour hike.

10:00 AM TURTLE TALK – Meet a real, live “shelled friend” and find out more about
their amazing lives. Join our “wildlife ambassador” at the Open Air Chapel, or
main bath house if it is raining.

11:00 AM MUD ART – Let’s have a messy, slimy good time! You’ll be amazed at how
creative you can be with nature’s own “fingerpaints”. Meet at the Open Air
Chapel to create your own natural masterpiece.

12 NOON MAGNIFYING GLASS STROLL – Use your eyes and some handy little
magnifiers to get a close look at nature’s amazing details. Meet at the main bath
house to begin a short discovery walk.

2:00 PM BUILD A CABIN – Less than 100 years ago, our park was farmland and farm
houses, not playgrounds and campsites! And home was made of logs. Come
create a little model log cabin with some sticks, some glue, and your creativity.
Meet at the main bath house.

3:00 PM CHEROKEE GAMES – Let’s play a traditional Cherokee game. See what life
was like for Native American children, before the days of video games! Meet at
the Campfire Circle (east end of main campground), or main bath house if it is
raining.

THURSDAY, CONTINUED:
4:00 PM NATURE GUESS WHO? – Is it fuzzy? Does it fly? Does this sound like fun?
Come join us for a game of “guess who,” nature style. Meet at the Open Air
Chapel, or the main bath house if it is raining.

5:00 PM NATURE GAMES – Don’t miss the natural fun – for the young or the young-at-
heart! Meet at the Open Air Chapel for some lively games about our natural

world. If it’s raining, meet at the main bath house.

7:30 PM BIRD’S EYE VIEW – Take a hike to the Overlook and look at our world from a
different perspective. Don’t forget your camera! Meet at Overlook Trail parking
area (also soccer field parking area) – past the Boundless Playground on the
right.

9:00 PM DRAGONFLIES – These fascinating insects have some amazing life stories to
tell. Come enjoy a slide-illustrated talk about these “bugs” that zip through the
summer skies. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or the main bath house if it’s
raining.
FRIDAY, JULY 25
9:30 AM WETLAND WALK – Wetlands are wet, and full of life! Come along for a soggy
hike near Fall Creek, on the far side of the Devil’s Backbone. We might even
spot a few dragonflies! Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool.

11:00 AM CAPTURE THE 3 R’s FLAG – Enjoy a reduce, reuse, and recycle themed game

of capture the flag. Meet at the Open Air Chapel.

1:00 PM BEAD CRAFT – Native peoples along the Warriors’ Path used beads,and so can
you! Find out about Cherokee beading, then make your own personalized bead
jewelry. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or at the main bath house if it’s raining.
3:00 PM TEN ESSENTIALS – Don’t hit the trail without them! Meet at the Open Air
Chapel to find out what’s REALLY important for safe and fun nature
exploration. In case of rain, meet at the main bath house.

4:00 PM SOIL CREATURES – Discover the amazing world of life in the ground at our

feet. Meet at the Open Air Chapel to “dig into” a new world.

5:00 PM ANIMAL CHARADES – Explore your wild side and show off your acting skills
with a fun game of animal charades! See if you can walk, talk, and squawk like
the animals here in the park. Meet at the Open Air Chapel or the main bath
house if it’s raining.

6:00 PM OLD TIMEY GAMES – Enjoy some good-old fun! Try some games from the
early settlement days of East Tennessee. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main
bath house if it’s raining.

7:00 PM BAT & MOTH – Use your ears and your “bug hunting” skills! See if you could
survive a night out in the woods and fields — if you were a flying bug! Meet at
the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.

8:00 PM STATE PARK “JEOPARDY” – Let’s try a natural version of the famous game
show. Test your skills and see how much you REALLY know about our State
Parks. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.
9:00 PM CAMPFIRE – What a perfect combination: A dark night, a crackling fire, and
some local, traditional ghost tales. Meet at the campfire circle, east end of the
main campground. If it is raining, we’ll have an indoor “campfire” at the main
bath house.

SATURDAY, JULY 26
10:00 AM MEET THE OWL – Meet a real live feathered hunter. – one of our “Wildlife
Ambassadors!” See “whooo…” is waiting for you at the Palmer Center
Amphitheater – next to the Boundless Playground

12 NOON BACKPACKING 101 – Have you ever wanted to spend more than just a day in
the back country? Here’s your chance to gain advice on how to begin your
overnight expeditions. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is
raining.

2:00 PM 100 INCH HIKE – Especially for small, tired feet! Discover life on the tiny side.
This will also be a great chance to catch a critter for the races! Meet at the main
bath house.

2:30 PM CRITTER RACE FOR FREEDOM – Bring your best creepy crawler to the
main bath house. They’ll all win, because they’ll all get their freedom. No pets or
flying creatures please.

4:00 PM JUNIOR RANGERS: TRAIL CLEANUP – Make our park a cleaner, healthier
environment! You’ll make a big difference for our earth, and begin to earn your
Junior Ranger badge. Meet at the main bath house. Be prepared to get dirty!
7:30 PM 100 YARD SOLAR SYSTEM – What if our solar system was just 100 yards
wide? With a piece of chalk, and a bit of imagination, we’ll find our place in the
universe! Meet at the Open Air Chapel.

9:00 PM A NIGHT UNDER THE STARS – There’s a universe waiting to be discovered
just above our heads. Let’s look up and wonder at the stars. Meet at the
campfire circle, east end of the main campground. In case of rain, meet at the
main bath house for some night sky legends.

SUNDAY, JULY 27
9:00 AM WORSHIP SERVICE – Enjoy a peaceful morning worship service at the Open
Air Chapel, or at the pool entrance if it is raining. Sponsored by the Colonial
Heights Baptist Church.
