Warrior’s Path: Summer in the Park

Welcome to Warriors’ Path State Park!
We hope you will enjoy
your visit! While you are with us, we invite you to take advantage
of the rich natural beauty and wealth of opportunities for
enjoyable recreation here at the park.

TUESDAY, JULY 3
11:00 AM
LAKE HOLLOW HIKE
– Let’s enjoy the rich discoveries of land and
water life along the Lake Hollow trail. Meet at the main bath house.
1:30 PM
RAFT CRAFT
– Years ago, men needed to know how to make rafts of
huge logs, to travel the river and to sell timber. Today we can make little
rafts just for fun, and to remember those early days. Meet at the Open
Air Chapel (or main bath house if it is raining). We might even try out
our new toy rafts at the shore!
3:30 PM
JUNIOR RANGERS: FOREST SAFETY & SURVIVAL
– Learn what
to pack and what to do if you are lost in the woods. Meet at the Open Air
Chapel, or the main bath house if it is raining.
5:00 PM
FIELD SWEEP
– This green world at our feet is teeming with amazing
life. Help us “sweep up” some field discoveries. Meet at the campfire
circle, east end of the main campground.
7:00 PM
BIRDS OF PREY
– Meet some real live feathered hunters. Come to the
Open Air Chapel and see “whooo…” is waiting for you. If it is raining,
meet at the main bath house.
9:00 PM
NIGHT HIKE
– It’s a whole different world out there at night! Tonight is
our chance to explore a rich, ancient forest, during the dark side of the
day. Bring a flashlight and drive to the camp store. We’ll carpool to the
trail.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 4

12 NOON
AMERICAN ART –
Come show off your artistic skills and pride for
America by creating a patriotic picture! We’ll bring the art supplies, YOU
bring your creativity to the main bath house.
2:30 PM
HOME-MADE ICE CREAM
– There’s nothing better on a hot afternoon
than some home-made ice cream! And there’s no better way to work up
an appetite than to turn the crank on an ice-cream freezer! Meet at the
Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.
4:30 PM
DECORATE FOR THE PARADE
– Decorate your wagon, your bicycle,
your stroller or even your dog’s leash! Come join us as we get ready for
our “mini-parade” at the main bath house.
5:30 PM
CAMPGROUND PARADE –
Come one come all! Help celebrate America
in grand fashion! Put on your red, white, and blue and join a patriotic
parade through the campgrounds. Meet at the main bath house.
THURSDAY, JULY 5
9:30 AM
SINKING WATERS RIDGE HIKE –
Explore succession – the changing face of
nature – on the first loop of the Sinking Waters Trail. We’ll discover the
woodlands changing all around us! Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool to
the start of the trail.
11:00 AM
LITTER SCAVENGER HUNT
– You can be a park “trash detective!!” Use the
clues to find out more about a cleaner park and a cleaner earth. You might win a
prize, and you’ll surely win lots of exciting discoveries. Meet at the Open Air
Chapel to begin the hunt.
2:30 PM
THE THREE R’S –
Do you know the Three R’s? Come to the Open Air Chapel to
explore ways we can save money, families, and the planet. Meet at the main
bathhouse if it rains.
4:30 PM
WOOD COOKIES –
Peek inside a tree and you’ll find nature and history. Come
decorate a wood “cookie” and take home a natural memory from Warriors Path.
Bring your artistic skills to the main bathhouse.
7:00 PM
NATURE GAMES
– Don’t miss the natural fun – for the young or the young-at-
heart! Meet at the Open Air Chapel for some lively games about our natural
world. If it’s raining, meet at the main bath house.
9:00 PM
DRAGONFLIES –
These fascinating insects have some amazing life stories to
tell. Come enjoy a slide-illustrated talk about these “bugs” that zip through the
summer skies. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or the pool entrance if it’s raining.
FRIDAY, JULY 6
9:30 AM
WETLAND WALK –
Wetlands are wet, and full of life! Come along for a soggy
hike near Fall Creek, on the far side of the Devil’s Backbone. We might even
spot a few dragonflies! Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool.
12 NOON
CREEK WALK
– Get on your old clothes and tennis shoes. It’s time to explore
the cool, clear creek waters. We’ll discover a world of amazing life. Drive to the
camp store, and we’ll carpool. Be prepared to get wet!
2:30 PM
PLANKTON
– For us, the lake is a place to go boating or fishing. But for the
micro-world of plankton, it’s a home. Come help us sample this incredible world
of tiny lives floating in lake water. Meet at the main bath house, and we’ll stroll
on down to the shore.
4:00 PM
“WONDERFUL WACKY WET FRIDAY”
– Let’s enjoy some kid-friendly water
play and learning activities. Meet at the Open Air Chapel and be prepared to get
VERY WET!
5:30 PM
BEAD CRAFT
– Create your own beaded necklace or bracelet. We’ll bring the
beads, you supply the patient fingers! Meet at the main bath house.
7:00 PM
RELAXING MEANDER –
Let’s cool-down and un-wind after a long day with a
relaxing stroll through the woods as Nature’s Evening Symphony begins to
warm up their “instruments.” Drive to the Camp Store, and we’ll carpool
9:00 PM
WILDLIFE OF TENNESSEE
– Enjoy a slide-illustrated talk on our common
native Tennessee “critters.” Enjoy wildlife watching from the comfort of your
seat. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or pool entrance if it is raining.
SATURDAY, JULY 7
9:30 AM
FALL CREEK LOOP TRAIL
-Let’s hike the park’s most scenic trail! Enjoy
beautiful vistas of the summer fields, as we search for signs of the unique
habitats in the open country. Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool to the
start of a two hour hike.
11:00 AM
ID THE TREE
– “Wood” you like to know what tree you are camping under?
You don’t want to “leaf” the park without finding out! Meet at the main bath
house, and we’ll learn some local trees together.
1:30 PM
WATERSHED WONDERS –
A shed that holds water? Let’s discover where
water goes and where it comes from. Make your way over to the benches behind
the Overflow Campground Bathhouse.
4:00 PM
UN-NATURE WALK
– We people can make
big
changes in nature – some are
good, some not so good. Come on along and we’ll look for clues to how we can
take better care of our land. Meet at the camp store.
6:00 PM
EARTHBALL GAMES
– Let’s have a ball – a six foot tall ball!! Meet at the
Open Air Chapel for some lively, cooperative games. If it rains, we’ll have some
smaller ball games at the main bath house.
9:00 PM
CAMPFIRE
– What a perfect combination: A dark night, a crackling fire, and
some local, traditional ghost tales. Meet at the campfire circle, east end of the
main campground. If it is raining, we’ll have an indoor “campfire” at the pool
entrance.
SUNDAY, JULY 8
9:00 AM
WORSHIP SERVICE
– Enjoy a peaceful morning worship service at the Open
Air Chapel, or at the pool entrance if it is raining. Sponsored by the Colonial
Heights Baptist Church.
