Warriors Path: Summer in the Park
Welcome to Warriors’ Path State Park!
We hope you will enjoy your visit! While you are
with us, we invite you to take advantage of the rich natural
beauty and wealth of opportunities for enjoyable
recreation here at the park.
NOTE: All activities meet in and near the park’s Main Campground, unless otherwise specified.
TUESDAY, JUNE 6
10:00 AM MORNING WALK – Enjoy the cool and peace of early morning in the
park. Come see and hear what a park is really all about! Meet at the
main bath house.
12 NOON HURRICANE IN A BOTTLE – Ever seen a real hurricane? Join us to
explore the wild world of weather and make hurricanes in a bottle that
you can take home! Bring an empty clear bottle and meet at the main
bath house.
3:00 PM ANIMAL CHARADES – Explore your wild side and show off your acting
skills with a fun game of animal charades! See if you can walk, talk, and
squawk like the animals here in the park. Meet at the Open Air Chapel
or the main bath house if it’s raining.
5:00 PM NATURE CRAFTS – You can make a friend! Create your own creatures
using natural materials. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or the main bath
house if it is raining.
7:00 PM EVENING STROLL – Let’s wake up our senses to evening in the forest.
Meet at the main bath house for a short, refreshing hike.
9:00 PM TENNESSEE SEASONS – Enjoy a tour of all four seasons in the hills of
Tennessee. With words and pictures, we will experience the excitement
of year-round discovery. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or pool entrance if
it is raining.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 7
10:00 AM WATER’S EDGE – Discover more about the animals and plants who live
each day “on the edge!” Meet at the camp store.
1:00 PM WEB OF LIFE – Every living thing is part of the web! Help us get really
“tied up” in our work as we build our own living web. You’ll see natural
places like you’ve never seen them before! Meet at the Open Air Chapel,
or main bath house if it is raining
3:00 PM NATURE ART – You’ll be amazed at how creative you can be with
nature’s own “crayons”. Meet at the Open Air Chapel to create your own
natural masterpiece. If it is raining, meet at the main bath house.
5:00 PM JUNIOR RANGERS: TRAIL CLEANUP – Make our park a cleaner,
healthier environment! You’ll make a big difference for our earth, and
begin to earn your Junior Ranger badge. Meet at the main bath house.
Be prepared to get dirty!
7:00 PM BEE’S KNEES – Sure bees make delicious honey, but what else do they do?
Find out why bees are so important and what they do for us. We’ll even make
our own little pet bees that won’t sting! Buzz over to the Open Air Chapel or at
the main bath house if it’s raining.
9:00 PM NIGHT WOODS – It’s a whole different world out there at night! Tonight is our
chance to discover the peace and the excitement of forest life on the dark side of
the day. Bring a dim flashlight to the main bath house, to begin our night hike.
THURSDAY, JUNE 8
10:00 AM JUNIOR RANGERS: BICYCLE SAFETY – Bicycles are a great way to get
around the park, and to conserve energy at the same time! Find out how to
SAFELY enjoy this nature-friendly transportation. Bring your bicycle and your
helmet to the Main Bath House. Children under 10 years old must be
accompanied by an adult.
11:00 AM SOUNDS OF THE FOREST – Looking to escape the noisy hustle and bustle?
Come experience some peace and quiet and listen to the natural sounds of the
forest. Meet at the main bath house.
2:00 PM HUMAN KNOT – Do you know your knots? Bring friends and family to tie and
then untie a giant human knot, the more people the better! Meet at the Open Air
Chapel or at the main bath house if it’s raining.
3:00 PM BIKE RIDE AND STREAM STOMP – Come explore life in the muddy places.
That cool creek water sure will feel good after a warm bike ride. Pedal on down
to the camp store, and we’ll ride down to the creek. Be sure to wear old clothes
and shoes – we will get wet and muddy! Note that ALL riders MUST wear a
bicycle helmet. Children 10 or under must be accompanied by an adult!
7:00 PM SKULLS – NATURE’S TOOL BOX – Every animal carries along all the tools it
needs for survival! Come investigate some natural “tool boxes,” and find out
more about each animal’s job! Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house
if it is raining.
9:00 PM TENNESSEE WILDERNESS – Enjoy a slide-illustrated tour of Tennessee’s
wild, scenic places and the special values they hold. After the slide show, well
have a demonstration of how to read wildlife signs. Meet at the Open Air
Chapel, or pool entrance if it’s raining.
FRIDAY, JUNE 9
9:30 AM DEVIL’S BACKBONE HIKE -Come hike to the high places, and get some new
views of our park land. Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool to the start of
an invigorating hike.
11:00 AM “ALIENS” AMONG US – Not creatures from Mars, but non-native plants and
animals. Come find out how these “invaders” traveled here, and how they affect
our native species. Meet at the main bath house.
12 NOON MAGNIFYING GLASS HIKE – Use your eyes and some handy little magnifiers
to get a close look at nature’s amazing details. Meet at the main bath house to
begin a short discovery walk.
3:00 PM CRITTER PUPPETS – Wish you could take home your favorite park animal?
Well, you CAN make your very own paper bag critter puppet instead, and even
“feed” him! We’ll bring the art supplies, you bring your creativity to the main
bath house.
FRIDAY, CONTINUED
5:00 PM TGIF WALK – End the week on a high note with a hike in the woods. Meet at
the Open Air Chapel.
7:00 PM EARTHBALL GAMES – Let’s have a ball – a six foot tall ball!! Meet at the
Open Air Chapel for some lively, cooperative games. If it rains, we’ll have some
smaller ball games at the main bath house.
9:00 PM CAMPFIRE – What a perfect combination: A dark night, a crackling fire, and
some local, traditional ghost tales. Meet at the campfire circle, east end of the
main campground. If it is raining, we’ll have an indoor “campfire” at the pool
entrance.
SATURDAY, JUNE 10
9:30 AM FALL CREEK LOOP TRAIL -Let’s hike the park’s most scenic trail! Enjoy
beautiful vistas of the summer fields, as we search for signs of the unique
habitats in the open country. Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool to the
start of a two hour hike.
12 NOON CRITTER PATHS – Be a critter detective! Find out what’s been wandering
through the campground habitats. Meet at the camp store.
3:00 PM JUNIOR RANGERS: WILDLIFE SHELTERS – Help our park become a
better home for wildlife. You’ll make our land a fine habitat, and begin to earn
your Junior Ranger badge. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if
it’s raining.
5:00 PM PRE-DINNER RAMBLE – Let’s “work up an appetite” for nature discovery!
Enjoy a short easy walk through the woodlands. Meet at the camp store.
7:00 PM HOME-MADE ICE CREAM – There’s nothing better on a hot summer evening
than some home-made ice cream! And there’s no better way to work up an
appetite than to turn the crank on an ice-cream freezer! Meet at the Open Air
Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.
9:00 PM EAST TENNESSEE HERITAGE – Enjoy a relaxed journey through time as we
explore East Tennessee’s history with a words and pictures. See images of people
and life in the old days! Meet at the Open Air Chapel or the pool entrance if it’s
raining.
SUNDAY, JUNE 11
9:00 AM WORSHIP SERVICE – Enjoy a peaceful morning worship service at the Open
Air Chapel, or at the pool entrance if it is raining. Sponsored by the Colonial
Heights Baptist Church.

called “Water|Ways” HERE to Warriors’ Path State Park this summer: Come
back (June 24 through August 6) and enjoy this amazing interactive exhibit
