The true beauty and natural landmarks of Northeast Tennessee are now featured to a worldwide audience of billions on Amazon Prime Video through Air, Water, Or Land, an outdoor adventure travel show.
The season 1 episode 3 portion includes a variety of Northeast Tennessee’s outdoor adventures with familiar faces serving as local guides. The show’s host, Angel Verde, experiences the true essence of the areas they visit by forgoing tourist norms, embracing a local state of mind, and seeking out the next adventure.

The Northeast Tennessee Tourism Association is responsible for recruiting the show to the area, as well as working with the Air, Water, or Land crew to develop an itinerary and point local guides for the series, as they visited the area for seven full days of exploration in October 2018.
“The crew captured footage of outdoor related activities from each of the eight counties in Tennessee our destination marketing organization serves,” Northeast Tennessee Tourism Association Executive Director Alicia Phelps said. “With so many experiences, it was difficult to select a handful for footage, which then got narrowed down even more to what actually made the show. But, I think folks will be happy to see familiar landmarks, as well as a few spots that may be new to both visitors and locals.”
The show includes hiking, waterfalls, rivers, lakes, mountain biking, outdoor survival, as well as culture blended with history and music.
“Each segment also features residents, outdoor enthusiasts, business owners, and East Tennessee State University students as local guides that interact with the show’s host,” Phelps said.
Air, Water, or Land is geared towards outdoor adventurists, of all levels, who want to be immersed in the culture of off the beaten path true outdoor towns. The Northeast Tennessee show lasts approximately 32 minutes, the longest episode of the first season.

“We hosted the show’s host and crew earlier this summer for a sneak peek of the episode, and it was very moving to see so many community members come out in support of the project,” Phelps said. “Each time a new person or area was featured, the crowd would cheer. I think it was a great reminder of how strong Northeast Tennessee is as a region when we work together. Which is what our organization is all about.”
The first season of Air, Water, or Land is available on Amazon Prime Video, free to Prime subscribers, or $.99 – $1.99 per episode to nonsubscribers. Users may search for AWOL Air Water or Land to locate the show.
Tourism is the second largest economic driver in Tennessee, with Northeast Tennessee generating more than $877 million in direct tourist spending, more than $189 million in payroll while employing nearly 6,800 people, and generating more than $26 million in local sales tax receipts annually.
The Northeast Tennessee Tourism Association, chartered in 1977, is a non-profit tourism promotion and agency that serves and supports Carter, Greene, Hancock, Hawkins, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi, and Washington counties in Tennessee, as well as portions of Southwest of Virginia. The organization’s mission is to serve as a catalyst to enhance regional economic and community growth through the promotion and development of tourism.
