The Appalachian Trail Vista in Northeast Tennessee

The Appalachian Trail Vista takes place in the Wild & Free Johnson City in Northeast Tennessee! With a modern twist on the Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s Biennial trail events in preceding years, the Vista is a place where avid hikers can connect with folks who are interested in becoming outdoor recreationists over a weekend full of hiking and educational opportunities.

Johnson City, Tennessee

Johnson City is the homebase for this year’s Appalachian Trail Vista, as it sits nestled at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Surrounded by trails and adventure opportunities, the city is filled with fun local dining, music spots, and activities for the whole family.

Guided Hikes

There will be 40+ guided hikes available to Appalachian Trail Vista registrants, varying from 1.5 hours and under from the event basecamp at East Tennessee State University. There will be guided hikes for all levels and all ages, including family day hikes! Event guests will have the opportunity to hike and attend workshops with a well thought out schedule put together by local hiking clubs and experts. Stay tuned for the full schedule release here.

Workshops

Festival planners have organized up to 30 workshops ranging from trail history, overnight packing, hiking 101, nutrition and survival tips, to how to plan your own community litter clean-up! The full workshop schedule will be available in May.

Excursions

Alongside a weekend celebrating the Appalachian Trail, guests have several options to attend off-site excursions like whitewater rafting, caving, fishing, history tours, yoga sessions, and more.

Lodging

Stay in town near the event basecamp or venture off to the local outdoors with our wonderful lodging partners. Dorm space is available first come first serve at East Tennessee State University, as well as a variety of lodging options including camping, traditional hotels, and vacation home rentals.
