Altitude and Attitude: Finding Your Peace in Northeast Tennessee

Vacations don’t always leave you feeling refreshed. Sometimes they leave you needing another vacation. In Northeast Tennessee, it’s different.

Wellness doesn’t always look like a spa day or a packed itinerary. Sometimes it’s an energizing workout, a yoga class in an unexpected place, wandering through a flower field, meeting a furry friend, or learning something new.

It’s less about checking things off a list and more about finding moments that help you slow down, move a little, and enjoy where you are.

The experiences are just a small sampling of the ways to feel a little more like yourself while you’re here.

Break a Sweat

If you’re someone who likes to stay consistent with your workouts while traveling, UN1FY Fitness is a great option in Kingsport. The coach-led classes are designed to be welcoming, challenging, and hands-on, making it easy to drop in. Whether you’re here for work or a getaway, you’ll leave feeling energized, and still have the rest of the day to explore everything Northeast Tennessee has to offer.

Reset Your Mind

Sometimes you just need a minute to slow down and stretch.

In Northeast Tennessee, yoga shows up in some unexpected places.

At Off Leash Social in Johnson City, it’s a Saturday mid-morning yoga stretch where you can bring your dog, then stick around after for Bloody Marys, mimosas, and brunch.

At Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium in Kingsport, yoga happens inside the dome. As you move through the class, the sky shifts from daylight to night, ending under a full view of the stars.

And this is just the beginning, you’ll find yoga happening in all kinds of unexpected places across the region, from flower farms and Highland cow pastures, to local wineries and beyond.  The best way to catch them is to check our events calendar or follow local businesses on social media.

Pick Something Beautiful

There’s something calming about walking through a field of flowers and no rush to be anywhere else.

At Harvey Family Farm in Johnson City, you can walk through seasonal flowers, pick your own stems, and build a bouquet right from the field. It’s a quick 10-minute drive from East Tennessee State University’s campus.

At Midfield Lavender Farm in Bulls Gap, during its June bloom season, you’ll find lavender, a gift shop, lavender lemonade and cookies, and a wildflower trail on the property.

Whether you visit one or both, the goal remains the same. Take a breath, choose your favorites, and return home with a hand-crafted reminder of your time in the fields.

Meet Your Fluffy Therapist

Not all therapy comes in an office. Sometimes it has shaggy hair, long horns, or a very strong desire for snacks.

Across Northeast Tennessee, there are a few places where you can slow down and spend time with some very friendly animals.

At Two Roots Alpaca in Greeneville, you’ll find alpacas that are just as curious about you as you are about them. It’s an easygoing farm visit where you can get up close, take photos, and hang out a bit. You can also pick up yarn made from their fiber while you’re there.

At Rocky Creek Highlands in Jonesborough, Highland cows take center stage. These fluffy, laid back animals are as photogenic as they are fun to be around. And trust us, you’ll want to leave with one of the adorable stuffed Highland cows.

And at Lochan Zanda Highlands in Fall Branch, you’ll find another chance to meet Highland cattle in a peaceful farm setting that feels a world away from your usual day.

A little time on the farm might be exactly what you didn’t know you needed.

Make Something You’ll Remember

The best souvenirs aren’t always things you can buy. Sometimes they’re the recipes you end up making again and again.

At Serenity Knoll Farm in Jonesborough, cooking classes are always changing, so every visit offers something new. You might learn to make fresh pasta, pizza, decorate cookies, or try a seasonal recipe using fresh ingredients.

You’ll leave with a full stomach, new kitchen skills, and a recipe that’s likely to make another appearance long after your trip is over.

Cheers to Slowing Down

Sometimes the best way to end the day is with a glass of wine and nowhere to be.

Knob Creek Winery in Johnson City is just minutes from downtown, where you can sit back with a tasting in their newly opened tasting room and take in views of the surrounding hills. It’s a working farm with a long local history, which gives the whole experience a little extra character while you’re there.

In Butler, Villa Nova has wide open views and a California meets Tennessee feel that makes it easy to slow down with a glass of wine.

In downtown Rogersville, Villa Vino offers a cozy tasting room with locally made wines and a rooftop overlooking downtown.

You Might Leave Differently

Maybe the goal isn’t just visiting, it’s leaving feeling inspired and rested.
