See it firsthand… Old Hawley Farm will come alive with reenactors and historians alike as they recreate the September 1863 Civil War Battle of Blountville like you’ve never seen before!
Experience this award-winning event on September 24-26, 2021! Drawing over 7,000 visitors to its arena in previous years, this annual event is held on the beautiful 60-acre site known as Old Hawley Farm located at 1173 Old Hawley Road, Blountville, Tennessee. Deemed one of the top 20 reenactments in the U.S. for three years in a row, this special event also won a regional Pinnacle Award presented by Northeast Tennessee Tourism Association in 2014.
This year’s reenactment will include additional cannons and reenacting units which will largely increase the scale of the battle.
The event is sponsored by the Department of East Tennessee Reenacting in association with the Battle of Blountville Civil War Military Park, and the Sullivan County Department of Archives and Tourism.
The main Civil War battle reenactments will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with other activities going on throughout the weekend. Union and Confederate reenactors will perform continuous living history demonstrations throughout the event, including infantry, mounted cavalry and artillery drills. Visit authentic civil war encampments and see how the soldiers lived! Visit the Civil War medical tent and see equipment used by doctors and surgeons during the war. The weekend event will also include a Civil War Ladies Tea on Saturday.
Friday, September 24, is scheduled for a free Education Day for regional schools and home school groups and will be closed to the general public. Students will learn what life was like in the 1860s era. School Days generally allow students to visit a Civil War Field Hospital, learn about the various flags of the Civil War, learn about the uniforms and weapons used by both Union and Confederate soldiers, see a Civil War artillery display and various medical displays. Parents and teachers may schedule their group field trip to the reenactment by contacting the Sullivan County Department of Archives and Tourism at (423) 323-4660.
