Living Here: A Portrait of Jonesborough
The McKinney Center is presenting “Living Here: A Portrait of Jonesborough,” an exhibit displaying portraits of people living and working in Jonesborough. Come see the exhibit for a unique opportunity: to walk into the McKinney Center auditorium and see the faces of people you have never met before and maybe some you have known for years, all next to each other.
The goal of the exhibit is to display the rich diversity of people that make up this East Tennessee town. It will be available for viewing September 13th to September 25th. There will be a reception on Friday, September 13th from 6pm-8pm.
Come and see the portraits and meet the people featured in the exhibit. This community is full of people with all kinds of backgrounds and perspectives. By presenting their portraits next to each other, the exhibit illustrates the ways people get along with each other, despite differences, in Jonesborough.
Paired with the portraits will be a YouTube video for each person. In these videos, each person tells about what brought them here, what life here has been like, and their hopes for Jonesborough moving forward. Each person has a lifetime of memories and stories. This project offers an opportunity for you to celebrate and hear from people as they share parts of their lives.

About the McKinney Center at Booker T. Washington: The mission of the McKinney Center at Booker T. Washington is to provide a comprehensive program through Jonesborough’s Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts which teaches various art skills to all participants through a quality program of instruction open to all segments of Jonesborough’s population. In addition, a primary mission of the Center is to enhance minority participation in the planning and implementation in all activities in Jonesborough while specifically celebrating the contribution of the African-American community in the growth and development of the Town.
