What better way to say farewell to 2016 and hello to 2017 than in one of our festive downtowns? Here’s some of our favorite places to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Northeast Tennessee.
Kingsport New Year’s Eve Party
It’s a New Year’s Eve Party 100 years in the making, as Kingsport celebrates 100 years in 2017. Join your friends downtown to ring in the new year along the 100 block of Broad Street. The festivities start at 8 p.m. with children’s activities, music, giveaways and more as folks prepare for a midnight special reveal ball drop. Think it will be too cold? Think again, heated benches can be found throughout the area. Beer, hot chocolate and food will also be available. Other activities that night include Lamplight Theater’s dinner and show starting at 7:30 p.m. and music at Model City Taphouse with Rusty Clark at 8 p.m. and at Sleepy Owl Brewery with Major Mojo at 9 p.m. Visit kingsport100.org for additional information.
Midnight on Main
Downtown Greeneville will be bringing in the new year with the return of Midnight on Main. The fun begins at 7 p.m. with a downtown dance party and karaoke at the Catalyst Coffee Company. There will also be a KidsZone and other activities taking place. Admission is free of charge. Other venues include The General Morgan Inn’s ballroom with The Whiskey Sticks at 8 p.m. and DJ Robbie Britton on the terrace. Admission to the General Morgan Inn’s activities is $30. The Capitol Theatre will host The Threetles, Comet Conductors and Billy Crawford beginning at 8 p.m. Admission to the Capitol Theatre is $15 with VIP perks for $25. Visit The Greeneville Sun for detailed information.
Virginia Ground New Year’s Eve Reunion Show
The popular band Virginia Ground will be reuniting at the Bristol Train Station for a concert on New Year’s Eve at 9 p.m. Tickets are $20. Virginia Ground was one of the first artists recently announced for the 2017 Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion in September. Additional new year’s eve parties will also be taking place throughout downtown at other venues, restaurants and bars.
First Day Hikes
It’s said that the activity folks find themselves doing on New Years Day will set the tone for experiences throughout that year. For anyone who has “more hiking” on their list of resolutions for 2017, Sycamore Shoals and Roan Mountain State Park Rangers will lead First Day hiking opportunities. At Roan Mountain, hikers can experience the park’s newest trail called Moonshiners’ Run and hike for about 1.5 miles beginning at 2 p.m. At Sycamore Shoals, hikers can follow in frontiersmen’s footsteps on a piece of the Overmountain Victory Trail and park grounds beginning at 9 a.m. Hikers need to dress and prepare appropriately for cold weather and moderate to difficult terrain.
